EHB5866 ist der Name einer fiktiven Galaxie. Das Video zeigt eine Animation einer einzelnen Fotografie, die den echten Marsmond Phobus zeigt. Hundertfach dupliziert, dreht sich der immer gleiche Mond, in immer neuer Konstellation, endlos um sich selbst.


«EHB 5866 ist die fiktive Galaxie der Basler Künstlerin Esther Hunziker, die aus einer einzigen realen Fotografie des Marsmondes Phobus besteht. In hundertfacher Überlagerung drehen sich die Schichten des Abbildes des Himmelskörpers in wandelnden Konstellationen statt um den Roten Planeten um sich selbst. Die stark variierenden Massstabssprünge der einzelnen Bildschichten erzeugen in einer gebundenen, rechtläufigen Rotation, die dem realen Marsmond entspricht, eine immense Bildtiefe. In der schwebenden Rotation der multiplen Staffelung des immergleichen Bildes dringen durch das ständige Vergleichen die Charakteristika der Oberflächen- und Formstrukturen intrinsischer an die Netzhaut vor, als es das ursprüngliche Bild der ESA (European Space Agency) jemals leisten könnte. Chus Martínez beschreibt diese Qualität von Hunzikers fiktiven Welten treffend als das Ermöglichen eines neuen, weiterführenden Verständnisses von physischen Eigenschaften oder qualitativen Prozessen des Realen innerhalb einer neuen, digitalen Realität.»

EHB5866 is the name of a fictional galaxy. The video shows an animation of a single photography, showing the Mars moon Phobus. The image is duplicated a hundred times and builds a galaxy of its own by rotating endlessly around itself.


«EHB 5866 is the fictitious galaxy of the Basel artist Esther Hunziker, which consists of a hundredfold superimposition of a single real photograph of the Mars moon Phobus. Rather than around the red planet, the layers of the celestial body’s image rotate around themselves in changing constellations. In a bound, synchronous rotation that corresponds to the movement of the real Mars moon, the individual image layers with their major differences in scale generate an immense picture depth. The multiple gradations of the same image that float before our eyes allow us to constantly compare the characteristics of the moon’s surface and form structures. In this way, the image penetrates the retina in a more intrinsic way than the original photograph taken by the European Space Agency (ESA) ever could. Chus Martínez aptly describes this attribute of Hunziker’s fictitious worlds as the enabling of a new, broader understanding of physical qualities or qualitative processes of the real within a new, digital reality.»
